My birthday

I usually spend my birthdays away from home. This has been the case since I passed out of pilani.

During college days it would be sad that my birthday was during the holidays. So not really any party or get-togethers even at wing level. It was always with either my colleagues from office or some friends, between 97 and now !!

For the last 2 years, I have been on a project at the customer location on my birthday. It was a real surprise when the team decided to give me a party.

Last year, it was with Raymonds in bombay, and this year at Tata Steel. Some how, it really feels special when some of these guys go that extra mile to give you a party and make you feel special.

Something is about remembering friend's birthdays. Its an all together different thing when it comes to colleagues and office. But these guys are neither. They are my customers.

These are moments of joy which i cherish for a long time to come.

There are small gestures which mean a lot to us. These are from people who are family, friends or even strangers. Can you remember these things ? Do you cherish them ? Have you told them that this means a lot to you !!! Once you do, its spreading of human kindness..Wars will be a forgotten past.

Wikipedia for those who do not know it yet, is an online Encyclopedia, but with a difference.

All the content are created by users. There is a review committee which ensures that all the content are from Generally available public information and not a part of any classified or properietary work.

In essence its a free Encylopedia. The best part is that there are lakhs of pages in various topics, contributed by the brightest and the people in the field to put in their knowledge.

I was thrilled by the amount of information on this site.

If you havent started it yet, I guess its time. The best part is, with Firefox you also get a wikipedia search !!!!!

Mozilla - Firefox and open source

I have been a fond follower of various open source movements. This stated mainly due to my friend Saisatish, who is an evangelist of various open source communities and a contributer.

Yesterday, I was chatting with couple of colleagues in office, when someone mentioned about firefox. I knew that my brother was using it for a long time and had told me in the past about it. But never instilled in me enough enthu to actually try it out.

Some how yesterday got the idea of trying it..... and now this blog is from firefox.

Do i like it ... too early to say, but i am definitely feeling my days with IE are over !!!!!

A few configs and i was up and running.

There are 2 real geeks in my family. First being my Brother in law Venky who is a great fan of new technology and gadgets. Second being my brother. He is another extreme, who bought a MAC since he hates Micrsoft products. He is doing his Ph.D in cardio-vascular systems, but I guess he is more a computer geek than his medical stuff.

Now, guess who is turning to new products, technologies and gadgets !!! I can't believe the influence and power of these affacionados.

Over the last 1 week, I have been into Picasa, Hello, Thunderbird, and Firefox to name a few of the software which share RAM space on my laptop now.

Well.. off to more surfing and learning from my technology gurus.
